PLANETARY HEALTH IN A POLYCRISIS ERA
Sociological Pathways to Human Security, Healthy Living, and Sustainable Governance
30–31 October 2026
📍 Maha Chulalongkorn Building, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand
We are living in an era of polycrisis.
Climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, pandemics, geopolitical conflict, widening inequalities, technological disruption, demographic transitions, and economic uncertainty are no longer isolated challenges. They increasingly interact, reinforce one another, and create consequences that cross national, disciplinary, and societal boundaries.
Against this backdrop, the Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University, in collaboration with Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI), the Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University, the Asia-Pacific Sociological Association (APSA), and UNESCO-MOST Thailand, invites researchers, policymakers, practitioners, community leaders, civil society organizations, students, and knowledge holders from around the world to contribute to the International Conference on Planetary Health in a Polycrisis Era.
At the heart of the conference is one urgent question:
How can humanity navigate a polycrisis world while creating healthier, more just, and sustainable futures?
FOUR GRAND QUESTIONS FOR A POLYCRISIS WORLD
Contributions are invited across four major conference themes:
1️⃣ One Health and Planetary Health between Geopolitics and the Science–Policy Interface
2️⃣ Governing Sustainable Futures
3️⃣ Future of Life in the Planetary Age
4️⃣ Methodological Frontiers for Knowledge Systems, Policy, and Social Innovation
The conference recognizes that no single discipline—and no single way of knowing—is sufficient to understand a polycrisis world.
We therefore welcome contributions from the natural and health sciences, social sciences, humanities, engineering and technology, public policy, professional practice, and local, community, and Indigenous knowledge systems.
WHAT CAN YOU CONTRIBUTE?
Submissions may include:
• Research papers
• Policy papers
• Community-based research
• Practice and innovation cases
• Thematic panel proposals
• Roundtable discussions
• Interactive workshops
We particularly encourage contributions that bridge research, policy, practice, and community knowledge and generate meaningful dialogue across disciplines, countries, sectors, and ways of knowing.
